Being a child of expat parents, having travelled extensively and having graduated from the international school system, I have been blessed by being exposed to different cultures, languages and influences. All these experienceshave benefited me greatly and made me the person I am today. However, I am also acutely aware of the difficulties and downsides to an international life, such as uncertainty and the loneliness of having to deal with everything on your own, with no family or friends around you. This iswhy I wanted to create a unique location where a child’s development and happiness are paramount and where the needs of parents are also met. A place where parents feel comfortable to just drop in, chat and discuss, not only how their child is doing but also any concerns or worries they might have about living in Maastricht.
We came to Maastricht as Expats and felt, as most expats, a bit lost when arriving, but as soon as we met the ECM community we felt at home. Teacher Marlies and her staff welcomed us and gave us useful tips about living in Maastricht. At our first visit of ECM we fell in love with the child care and we directly decided our son should join the child care.
I loved the atmosphere there so much that I decided to apply for a job and from that moment on I became a member of this amazing crew.
After three years I still love this place, because the wellbeing of each child is constantly our priority. We meet, for example, periodically to discuss the necessities of each child to be sure that everyone gets the best care possible from us. Isn't it amazing?
I was a teacher in the former afterschool care of UWC and this was my first experience with international childcare. I really enjoy working with children from so many different nationalities. Seeing these children interacting together and even becoming best friends regardless of their religion or background shows how much we as adults can learn from them. I love giving the children a nice place to learn and watching them grow and blossom from nervous new arrivals to confident happy children who mix well and play together, we truly do create a home-away-from-home for them.
I found English ChildCare Maastricht by chance but I am so happy I did. The team of teachers are amazing and the love and respect that the children and parents hold for Marlies is just a joy to see, the children are like little sheep when she is part of the team, all vying for her attention. The focus on learning through play is highly evident wherever you look, there is always some form of activity being done by the children whether as a whole group or smaller individual groups. Outside play is also very important and time is made for this on a daily basis and here the children learn the importance of sharing and waiting their turn as the swings and trampoline are so popular but not everyone can be on at the same time! I feel so proud to be part of such a wonderful place where the children blossom and learn so much.
For me going to work doesn't really feel like 'work'! Each and every day is a pleasure to come and see all the beautiful children smiling and being themselves at English ChildCare Maastricht. I enjoy working at English ChildCare Maastricht because of all the different nationalities and all the lovely personalities of both the children and parents. I've always been very interested in getting to know more about different cultures and working in this amazing place enables me to do this more and more every day. I also like to focus on a child's interests and stimulate them in their developments through play, seeing the children grow is the most amazing thing for me.
Working with children at ECM is a joy. Everyday is different. You get to see the world through their eyes. How they light up at the simplest things, their sometimes brutal honesty, their sense of humour. Also watching them grow and develop and helping them through those stages to become the best they can.
Hi, let me tell you something about myself. My name is Shelby Sweelssen, I am 25 years old and I was born and raised in Maastricht. When I was younger and people asked me ''What do you want to be when you are older?” I always said "I want to be a teacher at a daycare or preschool". So I chose the opleiding pedagogisch medewerker gespecialiseerd in the kinderopvang so I could work with kids. I think it’s fun and interesting how children develop. For example, their behaviour, personality and social development. It gives me a good feeling knowing that I can teach the children something new. The children and colleagues who I work with give me a good feeling and a smile on my face.
My name is Manon Engels. I’m Dutch, 33 years old and married to Mark Engels. We have two daughters: Meike 8 years and Linde 5 years old. My hobbies are hiking and doing Mosaic-art. I really enjoy working with babies. For me, going to work doesn’t feel like work, each and every day is a different day. I come with pleasure to see all the happy children smiling and being themselves at English Childcare Maastricht. I like to focus on the child’s interests and stimulate them in their developments through play and doing art with them. Seeing the kids grow from babies into little humans is an amazing thing for me. I really enjoy working with the different nationalities around English Childcare Maastricht.
I was working at Intratuin Maasticht in the animal department for 14 years and I was thinking about a career switch but didn’t know what I wanted to do! Suddenly, there was Marlies who gave me the opportunity to visit English childcare Maastricht and it was love at first sight! I made the decision to retrade and I am currently studying NTI for pedagogisch medewerker MBO 4 which enables me to work with the children at English Childcare Maastricht and study at the same time. This is the beginning of something new and a whole different future, but I love it!
Dzie? dobry !
My name is Malwina and I come from Northeast Poland. I recently moved to the green Netherlands after living in England for 12 years. I do love it here and I am slowly learning the peculiar Dutch language with help from my boyfriend. I am a Montessori qualified teacher with 7 years experience in taking care of children of all ages and from many different backgrounds and cultures.Working with children gives me the opportunity to use my imagination and energy to educate children in helping them to explore the world around them. I look at each child individually and give the love and support they need to unfold their full potential. I believe that we can learn from children the essence of life - be present in the moment, love life with all the senses, be creative, brave, curious and most of all - have fun! I feel very lucky to be part of ECM team as we are all like one big happy family.
